6 Easy Ways to Make a Tuna Melt Sandwich

There are probably way more than six easy ways to make a tuna melt sandwich. I just haven’t tried them…yet.

If your kids are old enough to prepare their own meals, teach them how to make these delicious sandwiches themselves. Swap any of the ingredients (cheeses, condiments, etc) for ones you and your kids love.

  • Ingredients: canned tuna, mayonnaise, diced celery, diced onion, shredded cheddar cheese, sliced bread (such as white or wheat).
  • Method: Mix the tuna, mayonnaise, celery, and onion in a bowl. Spread the mixture onto one slice of bread, top with shredded cheddar cheese, and cover with another slice of bread. Cook on a griddle or skillet over medium heat until golden brown on both sides.

Avocado Tuna Melt:

  • Ingredients: canned tuna, mashed avocado, diced red onion, sliced tomato, sliced pepper jack cheese, whole grain bread.
  • Method: Mix the tuna with mashed avocado and diced red onion. Spread the mixture onto one slice of bread, top with sliced tomato, pepper jack cheese, and cover with another slice of bread. Cook on a skillet or griddle until cheese is melted and bread is toasted.

  • Ingredients: canned tuna, mayonnaise, diced red onion, sliced provolone cheese, sliced ciabatta bread.
  • Method: Mix the tuna with mayonnaise and diced red onion. Spread the mixture onto one slice of ciabatta bread, top with sliced provolone cheese, and cover with another slice of bread. Cook in a panini press until cheese is melted and bread is crispy.

Kid-Friendly Tuna Melt:

  • Ingredients: canned tuna, mayonnaise, sliced American cheese, two slices of your favorite bread. We LOVE this one!
  • Method: First, toast the bread in a regular toaster. Mix the tuna and mayo in a small bowl. Add to bottom slice of bread, add slice of cheese, place top slice of bread. Heat in microwave for 30 seconds or until the cheese is melted. Enjoy!
